Most years when the NBA Finals finally come and the sports world rejoices to see the most exciting basketball coming from the two best teams that are left, they expect stories for every game, exciting shots, and a hard-fought series throughout. The past finals were loaded with exciting teams at the time, in 2012 with the youthful Thunder against the Heat. A battle of soon to be all-stars versus 3 of the best in the game at the time, and although it was short, every game was exciting because of the players playing. In 2013 the saga of Heat vs Spurs started and was thrilling to watch an older team nearly beat the fearsome Heat, this may have been the peak of LeBron's effectiveness throughout his career also. 2014 came and the Spurs surgically dissected the Heat in what was the best display of basketball in the past 10 years, and in 2015 the Warriors vs Cavs series took social media by storm. Through the hype you could tell that the excitement was only coming from how the Warriors were playing, not how the Cavs were playing. We wanted to see a new team of fresh faces take the crown (or trophy). But this time, the feeling I am receiving is different.
In this series I don't want the Warriors to win for a few reasons. The first reason being that LeBron deserves to win a championship for his home city. He has put in too much work throughout his NBA career for it to fall in the closest he will ever get to winning a championship for his poor city, which hasn't won anything in 52 years. He has been a gentleman throughout and put in all his effort in every game he has played, to dazzling results which at some points match up to Michael Jordan. The one thing LeBron has left to conquer in this sport is the championship for Cleveland, that would solidify his place as one of the greatest, and maybe even matching up to 'His Airness'. So I would like the Warriors to lose so LeBron cam win for his city, not so much for his place as one of the best though. The second reason is on the other side of things, the Warriors have been too good. The Warriors already have the best record in NBA history and they have the best line-up in the league. We have seen them excel at everything from shooting 3's to lock-down defense, now it's rarer to see them miss a 3-pointer than it is for them to make it. That is just crazy, and it goes for most of their players. We know a certain few will always play well (Curry, Thompson, Green) and if not one, it's the other. That just pains the fan of any other NBA team because the Warriors have assembled a line-up that is the closest thing to perfection we have seen in a while (since the '96 Bulls and the '84-ish Celtics). So when they are too good, you obviously do not want to see them win because it is expected and not exciting. The third reason is that the media coverage of the Warriors was constant throughout the season, which is acceptable considering the season they had but at some points it just got annoying. Everything you would see was Warriors related, and the other teams with interesting stories weren't even falling to the sportswriters, who sometimes track lesser known teams. So I don't want to see anything Warriors related for a while, and if they keep winning I will have to see that.
From the play we have seen, the Warriors have dominated. Cleveland has had only one shot to win, which was in the first game, and was only for about 8 minutes of them actually beating the Warriors to things. Other than that they have been playing with an uninspired mood. Some players, good players included were just not feeling it. Like Kevin Love, who wasn't even running to get to the other side of the court, which is the LEAST he could do, having a total of 22 points in the series, with a whopping total of 5 points in game 2. This is an ALL-STAR we are talking about here. A player who has been beloved the past few years with great play.
Everything else has been boring, the Warriors have been playing well, and have been killing the Cavs in every way. The Cavs have been playing with lame basketball. This has just been a very boring series, I haven't been feeling it, and still am not at 12:22 AM on Wednesday, I think, I don't know. I'm tired. I hope the Warriors sweep the Cavs so I can just start thinking about the NBA Draft.
