Great week for rap music with many prominent artists, as well as underground rappers handing us great music.
GOOD TRACKS -
'Heartthrob' - Father : https://soundcloud.com/liquor-cabinet/heartthrob-prodmeltycanon
Father has been around in the underground rap game, he is the most famous member/leader of the music collective 'Awful Records' or sometimes said as just 'Awful'. Father is known to make chill music with simple but interesting beats for example the cell phone ringtone on his song 'Nokia'. His album 'Who's gonna get f*cked first?' is a good album, despite the sexual undertones, the weird lines, and the weird title. It is packed with chill music and good vibes, which Father's voice is perfect for. If you're looking for a playful vibe that you can enjoy while relaxing, this song and his music in general are for you. 'Heartthrob' has a sweet instrumental produced by Meltycanon, consisting of xylophone-like notes, and Father's voice matches it perfectly. In this song Father raps quicker than usual and the hook is surprisingly melodic with Father singing about him being a 'Pretty, black, heartthrob' when he was young and he raps about his antics when he was young. A very sweet and melodic track that is light, which means you can listen to it whenever you like without being annoyed by the story or the lyrics. Just a great song overall.
'All The Time' - Wintertime : https://soundcloud.com/16yrold/allthetime
This track is two weeks old, but it's still relatively new and it sounds great. Wintertime is a trap rapper who is known for his cool beats and voice, literally cool as in temperature wise because most of his songs are carried by instrumentals with light notes and echo behind the instruments and hi hat giving a cold feeling. In this song he raps about someone who wants him all the time, 'which is funny cause you never ever cross my mind' this line is very very catchy (also he never said the person was a male or female so I chose to keep things gender-neutral). The instrumental is also interesting, I recommend you to check it out. A nice song if you are into trap music.
'All Nite' - Clams Casino ft. Vince Staples!!! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhXE1fGrv_M
Clams Casino is an artist specializing in instrumentals, he is also an established producer, in this song he gets a feature from Vince Staples. Vince Staples may be the best young rapper in the game right now, if not the best he's the most underrated. Vince Staples unleashes his storytelling powers in this track. He raps about his reputation where he was raised and how he's still feels like he's in the gang environment from his youth, and the violent vibe they are bringing to him is making him go crazy. It is a deep song and I recommend that you take a look at the lyrics here to fully understand what he's laying down - http://genius.com/Clams-casino-all-nite-lyrics
'New Things' - F L A C O : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsC4ZP9jlF8
I am so ashamed that I have never heard of this guy because his style is something very special. He raps with a hint of reggae in his melodic rhymes and his hooks have a big reggae influence that is almost Chronixx like. In this track he raps about how he has been hard at work and making a lot of music with a lot of effort but no one was watching. That's a shame to hear because at first listen this guy seems like he has a lot of talent with this unique style of his. F L A C O or FLACO definitely has a future once he gets more attention.
'Straight Like That' - Ugly God ft. Wintertime : http://bit.ly/1WHOTLt
Ugly God is the rapper I wrote about last week who retweeted my tweet and told his followers to check my page out which caused my pageviews to skyrocket up. In this song he joins forces with Wintertime who adds an extra rap element to this simple track Ugly God demonstrates his ability to change the pitch of his voice in this track, and it definitely spices the track up. In this song the rappers rap about how they don't call anyone their friends nor do they chill with them unless they put in the amount of work they are putting in. Ugly God and Wintertime rap on how they came to fame and how people see them. The beat is tranquil and it switches to a beautiful guitar-like piano beat when Ugly God changes his pitch. Good track, I would also like to see a Wintertime and Ugly God collab project, since the Wintertime x Lil Yachty collab was fun. 'Ugly Winter' maybe?
BAD TRACKS -
I am just going to leave this blank since I did not stumble upon any bad tracks this week.
